Photographic Print. Pleasure at the glamorous Casino Building at night, Blackpool Pleasure Beach.
The Casino building of 1913 was replaced in 1939 by this Modernist Style by Joseph Emberton designed from 1937 with local man Halstead Best
as associate architect. Despite the name,
neither the original building nor its replacement were ever intended or used for
gambling. In 1976 extensive alterations were made by Keith Ingham, such as its name, altered to the Wonderful World Building, kitchens, service areas
were removed and most of the public rooms were altered, losing their
1930s atmosphere. Only the managing director's
office and compact flat remained, which still have built-in furniture by
Emberton and Ingham added an illuminated
external glass lift which perhaps fitted with the glamour of the building and later its Casino name was restored. Today there is a big tv screen spoiling the Modernist building.
Colours are as accurate as possible but may differ slightly due to screen calibrations.
