Photographic Print. Still life of a deep pink Carnation flower with green Moroccan tea glasses.
Carnations were used for the first time in garlands by Greeks and
Romans. Dianthus is the name given by the Greek botanist Theopharastus,
from two Greek Words, Dios, referring to the god Zeus,
and Anthos, meaning flower; Carnations are known as the Flowers of the
Gods. Pink carnations have the most symbolic and historical significance. In a Christian legend, carnations first appeared on earth as Jesus carried the cross. At this sight, the Virgin Mary
shed tears and carnations sprang up from where her
tears fell and the pink carnation became the symbol of a mother's
undying love.
