This is a Mexican Desert painting inspired by the story of Guadalupe appearing as a vision to Juan Diego on Tepeyac Hill in 1531. She told him to find Roses in the desert where no Roses grew, placing them in his poncho to show to the bishop as a sign of her existence and her message to build a church there. The fairy lit Cactus gardens of Nevada desert and the lush coloured spotlight gardens of the Bon Sol Hotel in Illetas, Majorca, were also in my mind.
