Photographic Print. Retro globe light, White Lilies in overgrown Brambles, head towards the light.
This globe light, even though it doesn't work, stood out as a beacon of light amongst a high bank of Brambles and viewed at this angle, there is also light beyond up ahead. I loved the way it stuck out at an odd angle and reminded me of 'Rover' in The Prisoner. The garden hadn't been touched since Beryl's husband died and the house hadn't been lived in for 10 months when I bought it. The mass of green Brambles almost completely covered the greenhouse, so much that I hadn't seen it when I viewed the house and they had grown in the shallow dust and leaves on the patio. The overgrown trees, stone statues, it all looked romantic, like a scene from The secret garden.
I am told Beryl was lonely after Ernie died 6 years before and had a period of being in and out of hospital in the last year, I thought she could use a beacon towards the light as a more lovely send off.
