Photographic Print. Mermaid with green tail in Blackpool Illuminations on the Promenade.
The rows of mermaids strung along the promenade as part of 2007 Blackpool Illuminations looked much more bizarre in the daytime than illuminated at night. Some had startled expressions but this one looked more serene and at least had a couple of birds for company. An annual lights festival first switched on in 1879 and held each autumn in the British seaside resort of Blackpool in Lancashire. Also known locally as the Lights, they run from late August until early November at a time when most other English resort seasons are coming to an end. They are 6.2 miles or 10 km long and use over one million bulbs. The display stretches along the Promenade from the south end of the town to Bispham in the north.
Colours are as accurate as possible but may differ slightly due to screen calibrations.
