Photographic Print. Space Invaders dark fairground ride crashed rocket at Blackpool Pleasure Beach, England.
Moonscape craters on a space mountain with a crashed space rocket is a wonderful fantasy landscape; the ride was themed around a journey through space and the bold red sign Space Invader 2 stands out against the blue craters of the rocky lunar landscape. It opened in 1984 and closed in 2008 but now it has been given a new lease of life and renamed Astro Storm, at Brean Leisure Park in 2011. The planet scape
building remains, hidden behind a new ugly façade. It was a great example of the tradition of fantasy fairground architecture, transporting people to a different place, they are loosing this by covering it with ugly plastic rather than incorporating the space mountain into new rides.
The Four Man Bob roller coaster made by Zierer was a smooth indoor ride experience of a chain-lift hill, descending a 59 ft
drop in the dark, at an incline angle of 36 °, several
drops, banked turns and helixes.
