Photographic Print. Transamerica Pyramid with cloud at 600 Montgomery Street, Financial District, San Francisco.
The architect William Pereira believed the building would be a statement of architectural sculpture and was the ideal shape for a skyscraper with the advantage of letting more air and light into the adjacent buildings and streets. Although it was built in 1969 - 1972, it still looks like a bold modern monumental sculpture. I like the way the vertical cloud seems to rise up behind it. To me this building has beauty and grace, although different, it compliments the surrounding buildings, letting in space and light, unlike the Salesforce Tower which overpowers the iconic buildings such as the TransAmerica Pyramid, Coit Tower and the whole skyline of San Francisco.
