Photographic Print. Doorway to the light and Modernist 1950's zig zag metal balustrade for the staircase in my home.
The door is open and the chandelier swinging as if someone has just gone out, the previous owner of my home perhaps. The white globe light outside which reminds me of 'Rover' in The Prisoner, is coming up at the window. The 1950's balustrade makes a powerful statement on the concrete floor. It happened to be there waiting to be fitted. On the day I bid on this house, going to my top bid, I knew I wouldn't have much money left for the many jobs that needed doing. I knew the repro. Victorian style balustrade had to go from this 1964 house so on the evening of the auction, just for curiosity to see how easy it would be to find a Modernist replacement, I scrolled on Ebay. Two flat pieces of wood would have been the original but the 3rd item was this stunning metal zig zag design with wood handrails and disc newel post tops which I could not let pass me by.
Colours are as accurate as possible but may differ slightly due to screen calibrations.
