Photographic print. A staircase and yellow Roses at a Columbarium under the stone arcade at Alassio Cemetery, Italy.
There is a European tradition, especially in the late 19th and early 20th century Spanish and Italian cemeteries for the use of photographs on graves. Photo ceramic portraits or photographs covered with glass, often in an oval shaped frame, inserted into the tomb or memorial plaque of la nicchia or placed on top of the tomb or monument. Chrysanthemums are given at funerals and in memory of the deceased in Europe, they are not given in other circumstances as they have an association with death. This cimitero arcade is in the province of Savona on the Italian Riviera.
Colours are as accurate as possible but may differ slightly due to screen calibrations.
